CONFERENCES AND WORKSHOPS

BEPU-2024

    May 19-24, 2024 - Lucca, Italy
    https://www.nineeng.com/bepu2024/
The objective of the Conference is to provide a forum to exchange experience and views among professionals in the nuclear industry in the development and use of Best Estimate Plus Uncertainty (BEPU) methods in safety analyses and design of nuclear installations.

SWINTH-2019

    October 22-25, 2019
    Livorno, Italy
    http://www.nineeng.org/swinth2019/
This workshop follows up the earlier Specialists Workshop on Advanced Instrumentation and Measurement Techniques for Nuclear Reactor Thermal Hydraulics (SWINTH), held in Livorno, Italy, on 15-17 June 2016, organized by the SILENCE Network. Looking further back, the OECD/NEA/CSNI Specialists Meeting on Advanced Instrumentation and Measurement Techniques, held on 17-20 March 1997, in Santa Barbara, California, USA, was the last international workshop fully dedicated to the same topic. SWINTH-2019 combines the respective experiences and roles of OECD/NEA/CSNI/WGAMA and SILENCE in a joint organizational effort on a common goal.

BEPU-2018

    May 13-19, 2018 - Lucca, Italy
    https://www.nineeng.com/bepu2018/
The revised rule on the acceptance of emergency core cooling system performance in 1988 triggered a significant interest in the development of codes and methodologies based on best estimate and uncertainty evaluation (BEPU). Starting from the list of requirements developed by USNRC and constituted by the CSAU (code scaling, applicability, and uncertainty evaluation) methodology, several BEPU methods were developed and applied around the world. Although 30 years have passed since the approval of the ECCS revised rule and notwithstanding numerous efforts made by different organizations, the BEPU methodologies still suffer to not be fully systematic and capable to deal with multi-physics and multi-scale issues.

SWINTH-2016

    June 15-17, 2016
    Livorno, Italy
    http://www.nineeng.org/swinth/
NINE, on behalf of GRNSPG, has organized the Specialists Workshop on Advanced Instrumentation and Measurement Techniques for Nuclear Reactor Thermal Hydraulics (SWINTH-2016). The event was organized at the Grand Hotel Palazzo premises in Livorno, Italy. The purpose of the workshop was to bring together international experts on instrumentation, experiments and modeling in order to review recent instrumentation and techniques, identify the specific experimental needs that arose from the development of modern simulation tools and discuss further directions for instrumentation developments, modeling and experiments.

IYCE-15

    May 27-30 2015
    Pisa, Italy

The International Youth Conference on Energy (IYCE) was held in the Congress Centre of the CNR Research Area of Pisa in May 2015, hosting around 200 participants from the major worldwide academic institutions of the energy field. NINE organized this fifth edition of this conference in cooperation with the Student Association of Energy (SAE), providing a good opportunity for young experts working in different fields of energy and power engineering to present their work in an international forum and make contacts for their future.

OECD PKL-ATLAS WORKSHOP

    13-15 April 2016
    Lucca, Italy

NINE organized the Joint PKL3-ATLAS Workshop on Analytical Activities related to OECD PKL3 and OECD ATLAS Projects. The workshop was held at the Chamber of Commerce in Lucca, Italy. Main purpose of the workshop was to present and discuss results of the ATLAS, PKL, PMK, PACTEL and ROCOM analytical studies performed by participants in the PKL3/OECD and ATLAS/OECD projects.

OECD/NEA WGFS events

    20-24 June 2016
    Lucca, Italy

NINE organized three major WGFS events, held at the Chamber of Commerce premises in Lucca, Italy:
  • The Fourth meeting of the WGFS Task Group on the RIA fuel-rod code benchmark - ph. II
  • The WGFS 2016 interim meeting
  • The Pellet-Cladding Interaction (PCI) in Water Cooled Reactors workshop
  • The workshop focused on identifying the current status of experimental and analytical studies related to Pellet-Cladding Interaction (PCI) for Water-Cooled Reactors. In particular, recommendations from the NEA PCI workshop (Report NEA n. 6004) have been reviewed and progress made have been identified.

NURETH-15

    May 12-17 2013
    Pisa, Italy

NURETH is an important series of international topical meetings in nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics and related areas such as nuclear reactor safety. This is the only major conference series devoted solely to the advancement of knowledge in the nuclear reactor thermal -hydraulics field. It covers all aspects of thermal-hydraulics assumed in the different types of nuclear reactors of current and future generations NINE contributed to the organization of NURETH-15 in cooperation with the University of Pisa and the support of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). It saw the participation of over 500 participants.
